Geekforgood.net is an initiative of CivicActions. The original vision of the site was to create an open talent database of "geeks" who want to work for causes they care about.  The site was live briefly for a period of time around the Chicago Drupalcon (March 2011), with very basic registration and member listing.  Around this time, we discovered Sparked.com by the Extraordinaires.  True to their name, their site is extraordinary.  It was kind of like thinking you'd invented a stone wheel when someone rolls by with one that is every way superior.  While we can think of ways GeekForGood.net could be different from Sparked.com, we've instead decided to leave it as a blog covering volunteerism in the technosphere for the time being.

To those who shared the G4G vision and signed up, thank you for your support and willingness to contribute. We hope anyone interested in geeking out for goodness' sake will find this site informative, inspiring and empowering.
